When choosing bedding designs most consumers will make a decision based on their tastes and also factor in the decor of the bedroom in which it will be situated. This is all well and good and personal taste and existing room design should always be factored in when selecting themes and colour schemes. However, one area that many overlook when choosing their bedding is that of the dimensions of the bedroom. Here we discuss which colours and designs are best suited for different sized rooms.
Box rooms
The aim with smaller bedrooms is to try to make them feel larger and more spacious than they actually are. There are a few different tricks that can be used to reach this goal. The first trick is to avoid dark shades. This is because colours such as black, deep reds and dark browns do not reflect the light very well. As a result the bedroom can feel oppressive and quite claustrophobic. Instead you should go for lighter colours such as whites, greens and blues. Pastel colours can be a great way of creating an airy and relaxing vibe in a relatively enclosed space.
The second trick with small bedrooms is to go for bedding sets that have a simple design. The reasoning behind this is that intricate designs can make a box room feel too busy and thus even smaller than it actually is. Therefore look for designs that are either completely plain or themes that incorporate just a little decoration, such as some thread work around the edges.
Larger rooms
If you are fortunate enough to have a larger bedroom then you have a wider choice. You can still go for lighter colours and plainer designs if that is your preferred choice; however you also have the option of going for more involved designs. The larger room should lend itself to a variety of bedding options, even including vertical and horizontal lines which usually make rooms feel smaller. However, do be aware that completely plain bedding sets in especially large rooms can make the room feel a little sparse.
In such instances it can be wise to go for bedding that is more elaborate in its theme. This serves to focus attention on the bed and removes the feeling of excess space in the room.
Considering decor
Whilst bedding plays a large role in creating the right vibe in your room dependant on space, it isn’t the only factor to consider. You must also make the right decisions on the rest of the bedroom decor. The rules regarding bedding and decor are pretty much the same and anything to hectic in small room will prove to be counteractive. With larger rooms look to introduce little interesting touches to the room to make it feel homely and inviting, such as a bright rug or curtains.
