Cleaning Your Cheap Curtains

Just because the cheap curtains at Yorkshire Linen are so reasonably priced, doesn’t mean that they aren’t made to stand the test of time.  This of course means that at some point in time you will be faced with the task of taking them down and cleaning them.  Here we provide a few useful tips for making sure that you do the job properly and with minimal hassle.  

Timings

Curtains are obviously a large item to wash and can take quite a long time to dry, dependant on thickness.  With this in mind you are best advised to try and wash your curtains on a hot and sunny day.  Whether you decide to try and tackle all the curtains on the same day or split to job up really depends on how much time you have available.  In most instances washing your curtains once per year will be enough.  However, if you or anyone else in the house smoke inside it can be a good idea to wash them more frequently to remove the odour.  

Method

Ideally you will be able to fit your curtains into your washing machine and set the program to delicate.  However, not all machines are big enough for the larger and thicker curtains and you may decide to go to a laundrette that has larger appliances.  If this solution is not practical then you have the option of purchasing a commercial cleaner which can be sprayed onto the curtains, before vacuuming off.

In some cases your curtains may have water stains.  This is typically the case for curtains that hang above the kitchen or bathroom sink.  If you find that the water stains remain after washing you can give the affected areas a soak in vinegar and then wash them again.  Be sure to wash them separately from your other curtains to avoid transferring the smell of vinegar.
