Getting The Right Bedding For The Winter Months

Having enjoyed a truly magnificent start to the autumn, with the hottest start to October since records began, normal service has been resumed.  The beautiful sunny weather that much of the UK enjoyed for a few days has sadly gone and the all too familiar rain and wind has taken its place.  Some places have even seen snow and already thoughts are turning towards winter.  Here we look at the different bedding options that are available to keep you snug and warm during the winter months. 

Increasing duvet thickness

The most popular way to increase bedding warmth during the winter months is to go for a duvet that is thicker than your summer one.  You will probably need a 13.5 or 15 tog duvet to make sure you get a restful night’s sleep.  You may even want to consider an all season duvet, which consists of two duvets of different togs, that can be used separately or fastened together as requires; effectively giving you three duvet thicknesses. 

The option of flannelette

Whilst some love the feeling of having a heavy duvet on top of them protecting them from the cold; others find them too restrictive.  If you are such a person then flannelette sheets and pillowcases could be the right option for you.  The material does an amazing job of maintaining your body heat and is extremely soft to touch. 

Bedspreads and throws

Out final bedding option for the winter time is to add a bedspread or throw on top of your current bedding.  The additional layers help to keep warm air trapped close to the body, thus keeping you warm.  If you do find that you are too hot during the night then you can easily fold the throw or bedspread back with minimal fuss.
