Looking At Colours For Your Children's Bedding

For many parents the decision over what colours to go for in their children’s bedding can be a tough choice.  The aim is to create an atmosphere within their bedroom which they enjoy being in and bedding plays a large role in this challenge.  Not only can the colours of bed sheets affect your children’s mood; it can also have social implications.  Here we consider which colours are viable options for your children.

For boys

The colours that are most associated with boys are blues, greens and greys.  With blue and green you can go for pretty much any shade, from pastels right through to darker tones, without having anything to fear.  However, be careful not to go for shades of grey that are especially dark.  The reason for this is that darker greys are often quite oppressive and could affect the mood of your child for the worst.  It could even be that they associate the room with darkness, which could in turn make them frightened of spending time in there alone.  Obviously this isn’t great when you are trying to get your children off to sleep.  At the other end of the spectrum be sure to avoid pinks and purples which are seen as feminine colours.  Failure to do so may see your son teased by his peers if they ever see the inside of his bedroom decor.

For girls

As we have just touched on; pinks and purples are a favourite shade for young girls.  However, there are numerous other colours that will suit their tastes.  Some of the more popular colours are yellows, reds and light greens, all of which can easily be found in floral themed bedding.  If you are looking away from floral designs then you could consider simple pastel shades with little or no embroidery.  Again you should avoid colours that are too dark – especially if you daughter is in her teenage years and already full of angst!

Unisex options

If you are grandparents and want to furnish your spare room so that it is welcoming to both male and female grandchildren then go for neutral bedding.  Colours that most children will be happy to sleep in are whites, beiges and light browns, all of which are welcoming and homely.  In terms of themes it is best to keep it simple and go for quite plain options; removing the chance that one of the kids won’t like what you have chosen.
